“About a year ago, we were looking for a fun and challenging bootcamp in San Luis Obispo. The two of us had been friends and fitness buddies for awhile, and we were feeling bored and unmotivated by our current exercise program. As young professionals, we had limited time and wanted an effective morning workout before work. We were excited to find Mike Robinson at MZR Fitness. When we first met Mike, he took the time to get to know us, including information about our individual histories, exercise and activities that we enjoy, and our short and long-term fitness goals. Since that day, each N.B.A. Bootcamp session has been the perfect fit, and Mike has exceeded our expectations. He develops a unique sequence of cardio and strength exercises for each session, and continuously pushes us to the edge and beyond! His constant encouragement keeps us motivated and challenged. He pays close attention to each client, to ensure that each person is getting the most out of each class. In addition to the N.B.A. Bootcamp, we have mixed in the Spinning Chaos and Triple Sweat Cardio classes, which also provides fun and exhausting opportunities to burn even more calories! On top of having fun, we are stronger, leaner, and more confident. I would recommend MZR Fitness to anyone looking for a great and inspiring workout. "Before coming to MZR fitness, I was bored and inconsistent with working out. I was also really good at making excuses (i.e. too busy, too tired, too hot outside etc.) I needed someone to push me and make me accountable. I had never tried boot camp before and was a little skeptical, but decided to try it out anyways. It was amazing!! The way Mike had the class set up made it fun, effective and I had someone else noticing if I wasn't there. "I've been an athlete my entire life and have trained with several coaches & trainers at different fitness facilities and I can truly say that nobody has taken my fitness to the next level as quickly and effectively as Mike Robinson. "Mike Robinson has taught me so many things in our early morning workouts! Mike has made me commit to something that I have never done in my life - eating breakfast! "A year ago last July; we moved our travel agency, Gulliver's Travel, to our new location at the Pacific Coast Center. For several months, I would drive in eyeing the MZR Fitness Studio, thinking to myself that I don't do gyms. As 2010 was coming to an end, I realized that I was soon to be 50 in March and I was fat - close to 210 pounds and out of shape! I have spent the last ten years, losing and gaining weight. In January, I declared to myself that I did not want to be fat at 50 years old. Some things you can't change, some things you can. So I decided that the age of 50 was inevitable but my weight was something that I could control if I really put my mind to it. My daughter told me that I should seek out the gym (MZR Fitness) across the parking lot and talk with Mike Robinson. Fast forward to nine months later, and no I am not having a baby....but I have lost inches, firmed up, traded fat for muscle, gained a lot of upper body strength, learned to throw a mean punch, have lost 15 pounds for good (more to go), and feel amazing!! I enjoy my twice per week workouts. It is my time, just for me. Mike motivates me every time I work out. He is always in a great mood and very positive. In addition to my workouts, I bicycle, take long walks, and go to yoga. I try to do something exercise related every day since I sit at my desk for most of the day. Since I report in to Mike twice a week, it really helps me stay on track. MZR is now just part of what I do. For me, training at MZR Fitness is like "AA" for undisciplined, easy to fall off the health wagon folks like me. "I have been a runner for close to 28 years and have completed 35 marathons but suffered a HUGE setback last July in 2010. I was forced to have back surgery because of a fractured L5 due to years of high impact and repetitive motion sports. I was looking for a way to get back in shape and was told by my doctor that I couldn't go back to long distance running. I was lost. My son had been doing some personal training with Mike and loved it so much that I decided to give it a try. I have to admit that I was alittle afraid when I first signed up. I was only five months post surgery and wasn't sure what I would be able to do plus the boot camp workouts were at 6am! MZR has been the best recovery for me. Mike Robinson is very attentive to everyone in the class during the circuit training. He knew which exercises would be a challenge for me and helped to modify them to protect my back. I've continued to get stronger & stronger and now Mike just adds more weights to my workout! Overall, I am in better shape now than I have ever been, feel stronger and have no back issues at all. I was lucky enough to win free training sessions with Mike Robinson after doing the Miracle Miles 10k run earlier this year in Morro Bay. Since then I haven't stopped going to MZR Fitness. Working out with Mike has filled the need for an intense workout that I used to get from playing competitive sports before I came to college.
